So everyone talks a good talk about #mentalhealth and #mentalhealthmatters these days. But who do you know that walks the mentalhealth walk as well? Who do you know that can help sponsor the work of dedicated counsellors who have an ongoing program to assist adults experiencing suicidal thoughts? Its not glamorous, doesn't involve kids, animals or anything else that gets people to traditionally give money to. It's not spotlighted in the press, like the passer by whose kindness prevents a stranger jumping from a bridge. It has no gimmicks, no clickbait headlines, no funny images. But do you know what it does have? The ability to save many, many lives! A small, dedicated team that want to prevent tragedies. A can do, NO, must do culture of being kind, compassionate and understanding of peoples' struggles, with professional help to identify ideas and paths that see them through the darkest of their days. You know there's little to no help from the Government here. Can you help? Funding is running extremely low and without sponsorship their is a real risk to life. Mental Health is the hidden disease that can take a life at any time. I've experienced their services myself and grateful to the counsellor and the entire service for helping me stop seeing myself as a wholly bad person, stop the wonky thinking that I'm not good enough...for anything, stop catastrophising everything. I now work with them to give them better, easier tools to manage their clients and counsellors time and to build knowledge that helps provide the right services for people in crisis. 3,144 lives were lost in 2022 due to mental health. Shockingly, something a lot of us do not know including myself. That’s how many push-ups some of the amazing DB Results staff and I will be doing from the 1-23 of June. I've worked quite a bit in the world of not-for-profit, so singling out a particular campaign to support is little like choosing my favourite child. (FYI at the moment it's the cat.) There are lots of Charity Extra campaigns, but for me, this one - for Project Lily - is really special. Here's a bit about them: Project Lily launched in 2017 to help those in the Jewish community facing the darkness of mental health difficulties. Initially focused on helping young people, Project Lily now actively supports people of all ages. Given the challenges we have all faced since 2020, it’s more important than ever to shine some light into the darkness and help those suffering mental health issues. Project Lily has: - Trained (for FREE) over 700 people from across the community, equipping them to identify and rapidly respond to the most common mental health issues. - A care pathway that initiates urgent therapy within just 24 hours - Provided an average of £500 subsidised therapy for every referral who couldn’t meet the cost themselves - A growing network of Jewish communal organisations who receive ongoing support and supervision with the mental health issues that their users encounter, including JLE, Work Avenue, Seed, Noa, Boys Club House, and Resource. Thousands of people are impacted by Project Lily’s critical role in early intervention and support - and we need to help keep shining that light. This work is not only life-changing but is sometimes life-saving. 2023 Push-up Challenge complete. I like to test myself, so when the target of 3144 push-ups over 23 days was presented, i decided to go for 3500. My pecs will look good on the beach in summer.
